Eleven Years

Now…

Happy Anniversary, my dear!

Ahhh, what children we were on that icy December afternoon in 1998.   Who knew that the next 11 years would hold so much…some things good, some not-as-good…but everything a blessing, even if in disguise.  Someone told us, just before we were married, that years down the road, we would have changed and evolved such that we would not be the same people that we had been on that cold December day…and we scoffed.  But guess what!  They were right.  But all in such a good way. Who knew that – once the honeymoon phase ended, we would find that marriage required some good, hard work, and that (amazingly!) we couldn’t live on love alone…and that we would be happier and stronger as a result of all the effort we put into our marriage.  On that blustery December day, I thought I loved you as much as my heart could handle.  Who knew that I was totally wrong, and that my love for you would expand and mature, even as we grew from children into adults.  Whew knew that, instead of the exciting vacation we always imagined ourselves having on the date of our anniversary, that we would spend the evening of our 11th anniversary eating out with child in tow…listening to his rendition of Jack and the Beanstalk….and laughing till it hurt.

Eleven years.   Where does the time go?  I’m not quite sure…but I know I’m glad it’s flown by while I’ve held your hand.

All my love to you, with prayers for many more years to come.

~Melissa
